The Christian Man and Relationships

Last Friday I had a long phone conversation with an old friend mainly on the topic of relationships. In that conversation, we hit on a couple of verses that I wanted to share with everyone. Both my friend and I are men. This article is written by and for men; but women are welcome to read along. Read close, this is some powerful stuff.

"Most Up-Lifting" Verses: 1 Corinthians 10:13

"Most Up-Lifting" Verses:
This is a series of posts on some of the most up-lifting verses in the Bible.
---------------------

1 Corinthians 10:13
"No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it."

---------------------

My take:
This verse, like most in this series needs to be taken in small bite sized chunks.

The Bites:

  1. “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man”.
This gives me great personal relief because (from the point of view of temptation) I’m no different than everyone else. We all have temptation. Some temptations will be stronger to me than to you but we all have them. Temptation is a common human trait.
  2. “God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able”.
God loves us weak little humans and God is faithful to us. He will not allow us to be temped [tested] beyond what we can bear. We CAN bear it! Resisting temptation (key word RESISTING) will not be fun; will not be easy but we CAN bear it.
  3. “but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it”.
When temptation comes, a way out/around/through the temptation will also present itself. God provides this, not us, not our friends, not the government, not your pastor. They are often helpful resources to point you to the way provided but GOD PROVIDES.

"Most Up-Lifting" Verses: John 16:33

"Most Up-Lifting" Verses:
This is a series of posts on some of the most up-lifting verses in the Bible.
---------------------
John 16:33
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
---------------------
I think this is one of the most up-lifting verses for a few reasons:
1. Jesus is telling me that
ALL Christians WILL HAVE Trouble (capital 'T'). It's not just me. I'm not doing it wrong ...if anything I'm doing it right.

2. No matter what comes my way. Jesus has "been there, done that" ...and WON! ...and I (being in Jesus) have already won. The world is still fighting a battle that Jesus won for us over 2000 years ago.

Our Election

The 2012 USA Presidential election is over — and like him or not, President Obama has been re-elected. What should our response be? Peter says (l Peter 2:17), "Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king." ("King" comes from a Greek word that means foundation of power). Peter, who addresses his readers as the "Elect" (1:2), says we are to "honor the king/president". That doesn’t mean we can’t respectfully disagree on certain issues!
